A card that's fit for a teenage boy!

I'm sure my 15 year-old nephew isn't as impressed with this card as I am, but he doesn't know how hard it is for me to do masculine. And he's a 15 year-old boy, not much impresses him, except maybe a 15 year-old girl. LOL!

For the husband...

I'm safe posting this card, because chances are, the husband won't be reading this anytime soon. We don't make a big deal out of Valentine's Day at our house. I always make a card for GQ and the husband, but that's about it. This year I found a cute little something to slip into the husband's card...it was totally his sense of humor and it was less than $10, so no big deal.

Masculine cards seem to be the bane of my existence...I can make them but they don't come easily. I've been putting the making of this card off for a week or more because I was stumped. Valentine's Day is so pink and red and flowers and hearts...not what the husband would want on his card. This morning I had a light bulb moment and remembered I had a cupcake stamp (well, it's a Bella stamp, but I cut the Bella off after I stamped the image.) If you know my husband you know that he could pretty much live on sweets, so a cupcake was perfect for him!

I'm really liking the simplicity of the card and the dimension. I had some awesome Basic Grey patterned paper, it's red but the graphic design is much more masculine than the red hearts paper I have. I paper pieced the cupcake wrapper to match the panel on the card base. To add more dimension I used some Liquid Applique to puff up the frosting. I didn't want to add any more color or patterns to this card, so I embossed my scalloped circle for some texture and to make it pop off the card base a little. Tie a ribbon and add a little doodling line and sentiment and that was it! Easy and possibly one of my favorite cards in a long time.

A little doodle here, a little bling there...

I really had no idea where I was going with this card when I started. I had scraps of paper to use and my friend, Laura, had a card base made that shorted the front and added scallop, so I used that idea to start. The colors were great for a masculine card so I kept going and stamped dad but then I didn't know what else to do, just knew it needed something else. I let it sit on my desk for several days and then decided to add the doodled circle design on the side flap. It still needed more, so a couple days later I added the three rhinestones to the dad portion. I still didn't like it...so I added some bling, this time randomly to the doodle circle area. Now, I think I like it. I'm still looking at it and deciding, but I'm guessing it's done and I can remove it from my desk before I have it so fancied up it won't fit into an envelope!

Oh, brother...

masculine cards are the most difficult things for me to make. I don't know why; I can whip out a masculine scrapbook page with out any troubles, but ask me to make a masculine card and I panic!

My little bro's birthday is this week and I had to get a card in the mail for him. I've procrastinated long enough, I had to make a masculine card. This is what I came up with. Pretty simple. I fell in love with the Basic Grey papers, I'm going to get my hands on more, they're perfect for masculine cards and scrap pages. And I hope my brother thinks this card is suitable for a man. He might have done w/out the ribbon, but I couldn't leave it off...

Happy Father's Day!

did you remember to mail your cards? I got all mine into the mail on time...wasn't so on top of things for Mother's Day, though. Anyway, I used a new stamp set from Paper Trey Ink to make my cards. The stamp set is gorgeous and has so many wonderful sentiments in it. It's really going to be much more than a Father's Day only set of stamps.

The cards were made with scraps from my stash (doing good so far with my use only scraps from your stash to make cards challenge!)

Hope everybody has a wonderful Father's Day! We don't have big plans, hubby's only request is that we eat at O'Charlies. Not my favorite, but it's his day :D

( want to hear something funny? as I was typing this post GQ saw a commercial for Father's Day and kids talking about how old their dads were. GQ said "my daddy is 40!" I don't think his daddy would be too happy to hear that. Just made me laugh because the other day GQ told me his daddy was nine! )

Happy Birthday Hubby!

Today is hubby's birthday! I won't give away his age, but he's now officially closer to 40 than he is 30! ( It's hard to believe how old we're getting...I never really notice it until I see a kids, that looks like they're 12, but are driving a car because they're actually 16 or older. I figured the younger and younger teens look to me the older I'm getting. ) Since it's hubby's day, we've hired a sitter for tonight and are doing dinner and movie...his choice. No real gifts to open, hubby has some trips with the guys planned in the near future so those combined are his gift. GQ and I are going to make him a chocolate cake with chocolate icing this afternoon. YUM!

GQ and I spent part of yesterday afternoon making cards for daddy. GQ made 99.9% of his card on his own. There are tons of adhesive and Stickles on his card! The only part I helped him with was knocking down the one inch pile of Stickles that he created on it, that's how the rainbow of glitter glue was created. It looks pretty...took a looooooooooooong time to dry! Had we left it in the one inch pile it would have taken about a week to dry!

I used the Friday Sketch at MBI to make my card. I also got to give my new Paper Trey Ink stamp set a try. I don't own too many masculine-themed stamp sets and I just love this one!
